Fast moving Ground in Oxford

It was another scorcher this Saturday afternoon when the 8U's took the field in Oxford North Carolina. The 8U Blues were following the 7U Blue's at the Diamond fields. The 7U's took ANOTHER team to extra innings in their first game. Losing in 7 innings.

West Raleigh was the away team to start this weeks tournament against the Tri City Thunder. The machine was pitching perfect and out boys can to hit. By the time our boys were down, we had met the 7 run rule for the inning with only 1 out on the board.

#7 Jacob- Bunts for a hit scoring #28.
#14 Zach-Hits one towards 2nd, Short Stop over throws Second, #7 ends up scoring and #14 moves safely to third.
#10 David-Scores #14 with a hard hit line drive up the middle that the pitcher just couldn't handle

7 RUN RULE - time for Defense

The 1st batter for the Thunder hits a hard one towards short stop, Garrett at first makes a diving catch on a throw that was a bit off line, but the runner is safe on the bag.
2nd batter hits one to Timothy at Short who makes throw to Ryan at 2nd for the force. the Blues try to turn two but the runner is safe at 1st. One on one away.
3rd batter pops up to #32 Timothy at Short Stop for out #2.
4th hitter for the Thunder gets on with a "swinging bunt". 1st and 2nd 2 outs.
5th batter hits a fly ball behind first, that Garrett makes a running catch on in the grass.

#11 Grayson -hits a single up the middle on the ground
#17 Ryan - hits one past the Short stop for a single
#8 Evan - has a single turned double to right center when cut off attempts throw to third and #11 scores, #17 slides safely to third. 2nd and 3rd no outs
#16 Payton-hits a single up the third base line, scoring #17
#98 Blake-Hits a LASER between 1st and 2nd that takes one hop in the infield and doesn't end until it hits the fence in center field...it...is...an...IN THE PARK HOME RUN!!!! Bases are cleared three runs have scored.
#2 Garrett-pops one up that lands behind the first basemen and he settles at first with a single.
#9 Payton - hits a single up the middle, that smokes past the Short Stop
#28 Brian - hits a double up the middle scoring #2 and #9...

7 Run Rule - bottom of the 2nd

First batter for the Tri City Thunder this inning hits a one hopper to #11 Grayson at pitcher who makes the throw to Garrett at first for out #1. Second batter hits a one hopper to #32 Timothy at Short stop who makes the throw to # Garrett and with a stretching catch gets out #2. Third batter hits one on the fast moving ground through the infield between 2nd and 3rd for a hit. 1 on 2 away, when the next Thunder player his one to #11 Grayson at pitcher who makes the throw to Garret at first for out #3.

#7 Jacob - Pulls one up the first base line for a single.
#14 Zach - hits one on the ground to the short stop, Jacob slides beats the SS running to 2nd and Zach settles into first with a single.
#10 David hits one up the middle, but the short stop made the throw to 2nd getting Zach out as he slides in.
#11 Grayson - Hits a double through the dirt to Left Center scoring #7. 2nd & 3rd 1 out.
#17 Ryan - hits a double scoring #10.
#8 Evan - hits a single between 1st & 2nd, #11 scores.
#16 Payton - Doubles up the third base line scoring #17.
#32 Timothy- smokes a single by the second basemen scoring #8 moving #16 to 3rd.
#98 Blake - single up the middle scoring #16
#2 Garrett drops one into Center field for a single, bases loaded (with this much of a lead our base coaches have slowed our runners down to base by base running).
#9 Payton Scores #32 on a line drive to 3rd base, #98 is out at at third and the inning has ended with only 2 outs, because we have yet again hit the 7 run rule.

Bottom of the 3rd goes quick, 3 up 3 down, with Grayson grabbing the 1st and 3rd outs with grounds at pitcher making the throws to Garrett at first. #9 Payton Green makes a running line drive catch at short stop for out #2.

Our boys played almost flawless defense only allowing 4 Thunder players on base. The Thunder were only able to get a total of four outs on the 8U Blue and the game ends after only three innings with a 21-0 final.

The 8U Blue play again at 3:30pm against the South Squad.
