Pirates in Rocky Mount

Saturday's second match up was against the Wilson Pirates and the 8U's were slated as the away team again.

Payton Green starts the game off with a Triple followed by a Timothy single and then a single by Blake. #16 Payton Bloom hits a double scoring two runs, heading in to the bottom of the fourth the 8U's have scored 4 runs.

Our defense makes quick work of the Pirates offense in a 3 up 3 down inning. #7 Jacob grabs the first two outs at pitcher making the throws to first, followed by #8 Evan catching a fly ball for out #3.

4-0 heading to the second...

#17 Ryan hits a lead off double and #8 Evan hits a single to right field scoring Ryan. #10 David Dilday hits a single to left center field and #9 P. Green has the last hit of the inning with a single to short.

WR 8U's have tacked one another run.

Wilson's first batter of the 2nd inning gets on with a single, he then is thrown out at 2nd when the next batter hits to Ryan at pitcher and he makes the throw for out #1. The next batter follows suit and hits it up the middle to Ryan at pitcher who throws the runner from first out at second base. Wilson's next batter ALSO hits one back at Ryan who is working hard at the mound, #17 throws him out at first.

5-0 top of the third.

Blake hits one to the fence for a lead off double. #16 Payton Bloom hits a single, followed by a line drive single to center field for #14 Zach scoring a run. Rubin hits a double to left center adding two more runs for the 8U Blues. #7 Jacob pops one up high that lands in front of home plate getting him safely to first. Smith drops one in behind second for a single. #11 Grayson hit a line drive double to score two runs...5 runs have crossed the plate...5 run rule heading to the bottom of the 3rd.

The 8U Blue have another 1,2,3 inning on defense in the 3rd. The first batter strikes out, followed by Ryan making another play at pitcher and throwing the hitter out at first. Grayson was in charge of out #3, grabbing the ball that was hit towards second and throwing the batter out at first.

10-0 WR...heading to the fourth

# 8 Evan starts us off with a high fly single to right center. #9 gets on base with a pop up towards the pitcher. #32 Timothy fly ball to right center drops in but the Pirates get #9 sliding into second. #98 Blake hits a line drive single to left field, scoring a run. #2 Garrett Moffett had the last hit of the inning hitting a hard grounder past first base.

The Wilson Pirates first two batters get on base in the bottom of the fourth. The third batter hits one between 1st and 2nd which Green scoops up and throws to 1st for out #1. The Pirates score their first run with a line drive to center field. Ryan Smith takes care of the next two batters who hit one in the air and the other on the ground to him at pitcher.

11-1 after 4

Their were only two hits in the 5th for West Raleigh, Zach Hurrand had a line drive to right center for a single, followed by a Brian Rubin left field double.

The Pirates get 2 hit also in the 5th, their first batter gets on but gets thrown out at second when the next batter hits one to Green. Guy on 1st, 1 out. Garrett grabs a fly ball that falls into left field and makes the throw to second getting the runner out. Out #3...yup...you guessed it ball hit to #17 Ryan at pitcher who makes the throw to 1st for the last out of the 5th.

11-1 heading into the last inning.

#8 Evan starts off with a single, followed by a #10 Dilday double that scores Evan from first. #9 hits one to center field for a single. #32 Timothy hits one past first base for a single, scoring #10. The Pirates make a force out play at third, and make two catches on our next batters to end the hitting for West Raleigh.

Bottom of the 6th...Pirates head to the plate.

#32 Timothy makes quick work of the the first batter by catching a pop up at third. The Pirates get one on, with one away when there is a pop up at catcher and #11 Grayson makes the catch. The last out of the game (which only seems fitting for this game) is a ground ball hit to #17 Ryan Smith at Second base who makes the throw to first to end the game.

West Raleigh 8U Blue win 13-1.

With this win the West Raleigh 8U's are headed to the Gold Bracket, and since they allowed the least amount of runs out of all the 2-0 teams they had locked up the 1st seed of the Gold bracket.

Two games on Sunday will be played but first...Pool time and pizza for the 8U's!
