When Saturday's games were over and the seeding were set, West Raleigh 8U's were matched up against the fourth seeded South Squad in a twelve thirty Sunday afternoon rematch.
Again West Raleigh would be the home team and would take the field in the top of the first.
Ryan Smith #17 would take care of outs two and three on the mound, after the first batter struck out. He would grab the two slow rollers and make the throws to Garrett at first beating the runners.
Bottom of the 1st and the 8U's grab their bats.
#32 Timothy has an one out single to right field to start the hitting in the first.
#98 Blake hits a hard ground ball to the short stop, Timothy slides in safe at second.
#2 Garrett hits a hard grounder so hard to the first basemen that it stunned him and he was not able to get Garrett out at first, #32 scores and Blake moves to third.
#28 Brian Bunts for a hit and #98 scores.
#17 Ryan hits a two out single up the third baseline scoring #28.
At the end of one West Raleigh had three boys touch home to take a 0-3 lead.
The South Squads first batter of the second hit a one hopper to #32 Timothy at Short Stop who turns and throws to #2 Garrett at first for out #1. The next batter hits a single on the ground, one on one away. Batter number three strikes out for out #2 and the fourth batter in the 2nd for the Squad drops one in front of #17 Ryan at pitcher who throws to Garrett at first to finish the top of the second.
The 8U's would only have one hit in the second inning. It was a fast moving ground ball up the third baseline TRIPLE by #10 Mr. David Dilday. The next three batters for West Raleigh hit everything in the air to the squad and go down one, two, three leaving David stranded on third.
0-3 After two.
The Squad get two on in the third. They also have two guys strike out. Our only earned out was a popup to Payton Green at short stop that he squeezes for out #3.
Heading into the bottom of the third, the boys were starting to look as if they were waking up. It had been a long hot day on Saturday and so far on Sunday during this game it looked as if our boys were feeling the heat. But as #32 Timothy walked to the plate, there seemed to be a shift in the air, and as he swung his bat he he hit a Line drive triple to Right Center Field.
#98 Blake felt the winds of change himself and as his big bat swung he hit a HARD ground ball that cut through the infield so fast that the Squad didn't know what had happened. By the time the ball had stopped at the fence #32 had score and Blake had settled in at third. #2 Garrett battles in his at bat, hitting foul ball after foul ball when he then hits the hardest ball of the day. A Smoking Line Drive that lands over the outfields heads in Right Center field. #98 scores and Garrett has hit our THIRD TRIPLE IN A ROW!
#28 Brian hits a Sac Fly scoring Garrett. #9 Payton Green hits a hard line drive between first and second for a single. #17 Ryan Bunts for a hit. #14 Zach then hits a BOMB DOUBLE to center field scoring #9 and #17.
#10 David hits a single on the ground to the Short Stop, moving Zach to third. #16 Payton Bloom hits a hard single that turns into a double when the Squad overthrows the base. #8 Evan hits a Hard ground ball past the short stop for a single scoring #14 Zach.
With two outs on the board...we have hit the 7 run rule and are headed into the top of the fourth. The score is now 0-10 and if our boys can hold the South Squad on defense then the game will be over and we will be heading to the Championship game.
We get the first batter of the fourth out when he hits a ground ball to Ryan at second and he makes the throw to #2 Garrett at first for the out. The next two batters get on. There are two on, one away. The fourth batter hits a laser line drive to Ryan at second who makes the catch for out #2. The next batter his a ground ball to Payton Green at short stop who grabs the ball and makes the throw to #17 Ryan at second for out number three.
10-0 Final and the 8U's will be heading to the Championship game at 3pm against the West Raleigh 7U's who defeated the Tri City Thunder 14-4 in four innings earlier that morning. No matter what this tournament will have a West Raleigh Champion and a West Raleigh Runner Up.
Roll Blue!!!
